Complete Guide to Our Legal and Compliance Articles
Introduction
The Legal Filing India blog is a library of plain-language articles on Indian law, tax and compliance for business owners, professionals, founders, non-profits and individuals. Our aim is to explain the rules that affect everyday decisions: how to choose a business structure, when GST registration becomes compulsory, what a director must file each year, how to protect a brand, what to put in a rental agreement, and what to do when a notice arrives from a tax department or a registry.
Articles are written and reviewed by our team of chartered accountants, company secretaries and advocates, drawing on the questions we hear from clients every day. Each article focuses on a specific topic and explains the relevant law, the process, the documents involved and the practical points that are easy to miss. Where it helps, we include examples, checklists and step-by-step explanations. We avoid jargon where we can, and explain technical terms when they are needed.
This page is the index to the blog. It helps you find articles by topic, explains how we choose and write what we publish, describes who the blog is for, and sets out the commitments we make about accuracy and updates. You can browse articles by category, search for a topic, or start with the most recent posts.
The questions people bring to us are often surprisingly similar. When should a proprietor move to a company? What is the difference between a trademark application and a registration? Why has the GST portal shown a mismatch in input tax credit? Does a rental agreement need to be registered? What happens if a company does not file its annual return? Many of these questions have clear answers once the rules are laid out properly, and that is what the blog tries to do.
A blog article is a starting point, not a substitute for advice on your own facts. Indian law changes often through amendments, rules, notifications, circulars and court decisions, and the right answer can depend on details such as your turnover, your state, the type of entity or the date of a transaction. Articles reflect our understanding of the law at the time of writing or last update. Before acting on anything you read here, especially where a deadline, a penalty or a significant transaction is involved, check the current position or speak with a professional. Our team checks the current rules at the time of any filing we handle for you.
What We Do
The blog covers the same areas as our services. Articles are grouped into categories so you can find what you need.
Business setup. Comparisons of business structures, such as private limited company, one person company, LLP, partnership firm and proprietorship; guides to incorporation; and explainers on registrations such as Startup India, Udyam, Import Export Code, FSSAI, BIS, legal metrology and Digital Signature Certificates. We also cover setting up entities abroad and the Indian rules on overseas investment.
Tax and compliance. Articles on GST registration, returns, input tax credit, e-invoicing and e-way bills; income tax returns for individuals, professionals and businesses; TDS obligations; responding to tax notices; and annual compliance for companies and LLPs, including board meetings, annual returns, director KYC and event-based filings.
Trademark and intellectual property. Guides to trademark searches, classes, applications, examination reports, oppositions, renewals and assignments, along with articles on copyright, design registration, patents and dealing with infringement.
Legal documentation. Explainers on common agreements and documents, such as founders agreements, shareholders agreements, NDAs, employment and consultancy agreements, vendor agreements, terms of service, rental agreements, sale deeds, powers of attorney and wills, including what each should contain and common pitfalls.
Accounting and finance. Articles on bookkeeping practices, financial statements, audits, virtual CFO support and preparing for loans or investment.
NGO and non-profit. Guides to registering trusts, societies and Section 8 companies, obtaining registration under sections 12A and 80G, NGO Darpan registration, CSR-1 filing and ongoing non-profit compliance.
Property and personal. Articles on property registration and title verification, marriage registration, name change, consumer complaints, and personal legal documentation.
Legal updates. Short articles summarising important changes in law and procedure, such as new forms, revised thresholds, extended deadlines and significant court judgments, and what they mean for our readers.
Guides, explainers and checklists. Within each category, articles take a few common forms. Guides walk through a process from start to finish, such as registering a trust or replying to a trademark examination report. Explainers focus on a concept, such as what input tax credit is or how limited liability works in an LLP. Comparisons set out the differences between options, such as a one person company and a proprietorship. Checklists list the documents or steps needed for a task, so you can prepare before you begin. Legal updates are shorter and focus on what has changed.
How We Work
Choosing topics. Many of our articles start with questions clients ask us. If a question comes up often, or if a change in law affects many people, it is a good candidate for an article. We also cover foundational topics that people need to understand before they start a business or a legal process.
Writing. Each article is written with a specific reader in mind, such as a first-time founder, a small business owner or an individual dealing with a personal matter. We explain the law, the process and the practical points in plain language, and we name the relevant law, rules, forms and authorities where it helps readers find their way.
Professional review. Articles are reviewed by a professional in the relevant area before publication. Tax articles are reviewed by chartered accountants, company law articles by company secretaries, and legal articles by advocates.
Dating and updates. Articles show when they were published or last updated. When the law changes in a way that affects an article, we aim to update it or add a note explaining the change. Older articles that have not been updated should be read with care.
No outcome promises. Articles explain the law and common practice. They do not promise any particular result from an authority, registry or court, because outcomes depend on the facts and on the decision-maker.
Neutral content. We do not name or compare other service providers, and we do not include links to other websites in our articles. Where we mention an official portal or authority, we refer to it by its generic name, such as the GST portal or the MCA portal.
How to use the index. You can browse articles by the categories above, use the search box to find a topic, or read the most recent posts. Each article includes related reading, so you can explore a topic in more depth. If an article relates to one of our services, we mention it at the end so you know where to go if you need help.
How we handle figures and thresholds. Government fee amounts change often and vary by state, capital or case, so we generally do not quote them in articles, and instead say that government fees are payable at actual. Statutory thresholds, such as GST registration limits or audit limits, are described in words and are accompanied by a note that they should be checked at the time of filing. This keeps articles accurate for longer and avoids readers relying on a figure that has since changed.
How we handle state-specific rules. Areas such as stamp duty, property registration, professional tax and shops and establishments laws vary from state to state. Articles on these topics explain the general framework and point out where state rules differ, rather than presenting one state's rules as if they applied everywhere.
Reading an article effectively. Start with the summary at the top, which sets out the key points. Then read the sections that match your situation, such as the eligibility rules, the process or the common mistakes. Note the date of the last update, and if the article refers to a deadline or threshold, confirm it before you act.

Our Commitments
Accuracy. We aim to explain Indian law correctly and precisely, and articles are reviewed by qualified professionals before publication.
Clarity. We write in plain language and explain technical terms, so readers without a legal or tax background can follow.
Currency. We show when articles were published or last updated, and update articles when significant changes happen.
Honesty. We explain both the benefits and the limitations of options, and we are clear about what an article can and cannot tell you.
Independence. Articles are written to inform, not to push a particular service. Where an article mentions one of our services, it is because the service is relevant to the topic.
No misleading claims. We do not use superlatives or promises about outcomes in our articles.
Corrections. If a reader points out an error, we review it and correct the article where needed.
Respect for readers. We do not hide important information behind sign-ups, and we keep articles focused on what readers need to know.
Balanced coverage. Where the law is unsettled, or where courts or authorities have taken different views, we say so rather than presenting one view as the final answer.

Articles are written and reviewed by our team of chartered accountants, company secretaries and advocates, based on the questions we hear from clients and on changes in law.
Can I rely on a blog article for my own case?
Articles explain the general law and common practice. Your own situation may depend on specific facts and on the law at the time you act. For decisions with deadlines, penalties or significant consequences, check the current position or speak with a professional.
How often is the blog updated?
We publish new articles and update existing ones as topics come up and as the law changes. Each article shows when it was published or last updated.
How do I find articles on a specific topic?
You can browse by category, use the search box, or follow the related reading links at the end of each article.
Can I suggest a topic?
Yes. If there is a question you would like us to cover, use the contact form to let us know. Popular questions often become articles.
What should I do if I find an error in an article?
Let us know through the contact form. We will review the point and correct the article if needed.
Do the articles cover state-specific rules?
Where rules vary by state, such as for stamp duty, professional tax, shops and establishments laws or property registration, articles point this out and explain the general position. The exact requirements depend on your state.
Are government fees and amounts mentioned in articles?
We generally avoid quoting government fee amounts in articles, because they change and vary by case. Where statutory thresholds matter, we describe them and note that they should be checked at the time of filing.
Can I share or quote your articles?
You are welcome to share the article page with others. If you want to reproduce substantial content, please contact us first.

Does the blog cover recent changes in law?
Yes. Our legal updates category covers important changes in law and procedure and explains what they mean for readers.
Are older articles still accurate?
Older articles reflect the law at the time they were written or last updated. If the date is not recent, check whether the rules have changed before relying on it.
Do you write about topics outside your services?
Our articles focus on the legal, tax and compliance areas we work in, since that is where our team can offer reliable explanations.

Articles are currently published in English. If you would find content in another Indian language useful, let us know through the contact form so we can consider it.
Do articles include official form numbers and section references?

Can I ask a follow-up question about an article?

Do you accept guest articles?
We generally publish articles written and reviewed by our own team, so that every article meets the same standard of accuracy and review. If you have a suggestion, you are welcome to share it through the contact form.
